HOW WE GOT HERE

THE FUTURE IS TRANSPARENT.

Consumers deserve to know where their leather comes from.

HOW WE GOT HERE

Our journey began five years ago when we walked into countless stores across the country and asked just one seemingly simple question: Where does your leather come from? Not a single establishment could give us an answer. If you’re selling something, shouldn’t you know where it originated? We think so, and it got us thinking. How can we expect consumers to make better choices if there are not better choices on the shelves? How can designers be held accountable for responsible sourcing if they cannot choose where their leather comes from?

If there are responsible farmers giving us better choices when it comes to our food, then why can’t we have these same choices when it comes to fashion? Well we now can and we should.

We reinvented the supply chain with forward thinking companies that agree the future should be more transparent. We work directly with farmers who are willing to go the extra mile to take better care of us, our animals, and our planet. When you see the BEHUMANE stamp, you can feel confident in your purchase knowing it aligns with your values. Now you have a choice you can be proud of.
We are your badge of honor.

THE FOUNDER
DANIELLE DOTZENROD

I grew up on my grandfather’s dairy farm in rural NE Iowa. Instead of collecting barbies, I collected miniature John Deere tractors. Ironically, at 16 I represented the United States in an international modeling competition. After working as a fashion model in New York City for 3 years, I moved to Los Angeles to become a television host. Over time, it has been heartbreaking to watch what has happened to small farmers, like my grandpa. What was once a countryside speckled in quaint family farms, has now become abandoned houses with dismantled barns and fields plowed up to the foundations. As I watched consumers demand more and more from the food industry, I recognized the potential to bring that same unstoppable movement to fashion and to connect my two worlds in a way that has never been done before. A new method of rewarding responsible farmers while giving consumers the nowledge they deserve and the power to support what they believe in.
